I've been teaching special education since 1994 and preschool special education since 2001. I've been working with the special needs population (ages 3-adult) in one capacity or another since 1987. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees (Go Lumberjacks!). I will be your child's biggest fan for the next year(s). It is important to provide positive opportunities for exploration and challenging experiences to foster growth at a developmentally appropriate level for each unique child. I believe that children learn best through positive interactions in an active learning environment that fosters development in academics, communication, social/emotional skills, adaptive skills, and motor skills. I have over 14 years of teaching experience and have been teaching in Priority Preschool since 2018. I currently hold an ADE Special Education Teaching Certificate with an Early Childhood Education Endorsement. I received my BA in Special Education from Arizona State University. Our preschool day will be filled with large group, small group and independent activities that are rich with language and foster growth in all areas of development. This school year, your child will be exposed to a variety of new activities that foster the development of language, social skills, life and functional skills, academics and improving motor skills. I am delighted to have your child in my classroom this year. Hello and welcome to CUSD's Priority Preschool at Hancock Elementary. I believe that caregivers are an integral part of their student's success and I look forward to providing families with home-based activities and ideas to help work on your student's communication and play skills. The intervention model PreK is similar and may include therapy being provided separately in a special education classroom. I am on site every day and will be in your student's classroom twice weekly. The intervention model used in CUSD Priority Preschool classrooms is inclusive, which means I work closely with the classroom teacher and paraprofessional staff to ensure that intervention strategies are in place throughout the daily classroom activities. My particular areas of interest are play and social-emotional development, and feeding intervention. I have been with Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) since 2014 and am currently focused on preschool services for students enrolled in CUSD programs. My prior work experiences include home-based therapeutic services for AzEIP and DDD, clinical/classroom services and staff training with Southwest Human Development and the Infant Child Research Program at ASU, as well as research, teaching and student training at ASU. I have worked in the early intervention field since 1995 after graduating from Arizona State University (ASU) with a Master's in Communication Disorders. Welcome to preschool!
